Position Description

This position has responsibility for developing and delivering learning programs for the Indie School Mildura Campus, including:

  • Preparation and delivery of programs in line with appropriate curriculum
  • Enhancing effectiveness in the classroom through improved teacher knowledge, practice and professional engagement in order to achieve improved standards of teaching and learning within the classroom and across the school
  • Ensuring the most effective use of time and resources in the delivery of classes aligned to student’s individual learning and pathways plans
  • Providing appropriate assessment and feedback about student achievement and progress
  • Promoting the school’s alternative educational and strengths based model to ensure student goals and personal outcomes are achieved with the focus on “Changing the Lives of Young People”

 

Key Accountabilities

Teaching duties are aligned to the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. Key duties of the Teacher may include but are not limited to:

  • Identify student learning strengths and needs in line with curriculum and student circumstances and implement innovative programs and teaching strategies to engage students with their learning
  • Work with local community groups/agencies on any ‘linked’ youth programs designed to re-engage students and improve retention rates
  • Develop and deliver educational programs (or equivalent) as directed
  • Meet internal and external assessment and reporting requirements
  • Develop, implement, monitor and update regularly Individual Learning Plans
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries between teaching related and welfare related support, referring students to the Welfare Officer where appropriate
  • Participate in regular program, unit of work, lesson plan, assessment, maintain an up to date register and reviews with the Head of School
  • Participate in regular Peer Observations of classroom teaching practice
  • Follow policy and procedures in all matters
  • Collaborate with the Head of School in the preparation of submissions to funding bodies for program support, as required
  • Maintain record keeping and filing systems
  • Collect and maintain statistical data as required by regulatory/funding bodies and policy
  • Opening and closing of the campus plus locking down of the property at the end of the day
  • Actively participate in scheduled yard duties and general supervision
  • Attend professional development and staff meetings as requested
  • Liaise with other Indie School and Indie College staff as required
  • Undertake other related teaching duties as determined by the Head of School, Indie Manager or Indie representative

Position Description

Student Welfare & Enrolments Officer

The Albury Wodonga Community College is seeking a qualified and experienced Student Welfare & Enrolments Officer (Educational Services (Post-Secondary Education) Award 2010) to support our Indie School and Australian College of Higher Education programs. This position will be based in the NW Melbourne region.

The position

Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 4.30pm, 38 hours per week and at a Grade 2 or higher (range 65k – 75k depending on experience and qualifications).

Roles and responsibilities of the Student Welfare & Enrolments Officer include:

  • Act as a main support person for senior school aged students aged 15 – 19 years.
  • Facilitate student enrolment into Indie School, conduct interviews, assist students and families to complete enrolment paperwork.
  • Maintaining student records in line with compliance standards.
  • Assess student needs, facilitate access and negotiate appropriate support and referral to services as required.
  • Provide counselling and support to students and staff.
  • Develop and implement structured welfare programs to support student wellbeing, educate students about safe practices, how to seek further assistance and guidance across a range of welfare related matters.
  • Identify, monitor, and develop intervention strategies for at risk students.
  • Liaise with student, carer/parent/guardian and other stakeholders to resolve student issues.

 

The successful applicant must possess the following skills, qualifications, knowledge, and experience:

  • Demonstrated experience and passion in the provision of individual support and working with young people.
  • High level of IT literacy, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Minimum qualification in Diploma (or higher) in Community Services, Counselling, Youth Work, Social Science, Social Work or related discipline.
  • High level of interpersonal skills including the ability to negotiate and resolve conflict.
  • High level of organisational skills and time management.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team, and also autonomously and with initiative.
  • Current Working with Children’s Check (VIC).
  • National Police Check
  • Current Australian drivers license

 

Previous experience in a similar role working with senior school years students would be an advantage, however, applicants who can demonstrate the right attitude and initiative to student support will be considered.

Position Objective

Key Responsibilities

Key duties of the Assistant Head of School/Teacher may include but are not limited to:

  • identify and coordinate relevant school secondary education and related vocational education and training to meet the needs and aspirations of the target group students;
  • provide relevant assistance to young people in their transition from Post-compulsory Indie Schooling to employment, further education or training;
  • assist the operations of the Devonport Indie School and surrounding areas, including relevant curriculum, delivery and reporting requirements;
  • stand in as Acting Head of School for short periods of absence;
  • develop and maintain appropriate administrative systems that meet internal and external reporting requirements;
  • assist in the lead development of new curriculum for continuous subject/coursework student interest and relevance;
  • leading, managing, supporting and giving direction to Indie School teachers, welfare and administration staff;
  • maintaining school registration, compliance reporting and operate within school budget
